Sheela na Gig

The Sheela Na Gig is a carved stone image of a female figure appearing in Ireland primarily at churches and castles of the Medieval period. She is often placed prominently in a position where observers may see her revealing her genitalia in a gesture of provocative spiritual and sovereign power. She currently appears in 118 representations that are documented in Island of the Sheela na Gigs and new ones are being uncovered all the time. Bandia casts the Sheela na Gigs of Ireland in White Bronze as pendants and figurines, makes them as plaster wall plaques, and publishes the guide and map that document them.
